Hi All,

I am running into a bit a of a strange situation when I OC my E6600.

Here's my specs:
P5B Deluxe with 1004 BIOS
BFG 8800GTX (Latest drivers)
E6600
2GB RAM
OCZ 850W PSU
CPU and GPU Water cooled.

When I run with the E6600 at stock 2.4GHz, no BIOS adjustments, my 3DMarks average around 11000.

When I OC the CPU to 3.6GHz the 3DMark scores drop like a rock, down to an average of about 3500.

The CPU OC is super stable and have run dual prime95 for several hours without error or heat issues.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

I did a mild overclock to my memory and lost 2000 points myself. The response that I got was that the first run for 3DMark is generally higher then what successive ones will be. The synthetic probably doesn't reflect actual results. My computer is more responsive then it was, so it's difficult for me to go with the 3DMark score.

read the article in my Sig...too long for me to write it, so better if you just read it. The lightbulb definitely came on for me after reading it.

I did not read the article, but from what i have read. It means that the ratio or memory to cpu is all hosed up. I am not sure how to explain it. Pretty much instead of the memory and cpu being 1:1 it might some like 1:3 or some other not good setting. Maybe some of the OC techs can divulge better on this.

Thanks for the link RJ, interesting stuff but I am pretty confused by it all.

My E6600 is set to 400MHz FSB with a multiplier of 9 for 3.6GHz.

If I try anything much higher than 400 on the FSB I start having issues posting, and I have to set the Vcore too high for my liking.

I guess I'll try dropping the multiplier (if that's even possible with the E6600) and upping the FSB and see what kind of results I get.

thanks!!

EDIT:
Okay I did some more testing, and as soon as I increase the bus speed higher than 360 the 3dmark scores drop. 360 is fine, 361 is terrible.
FSB-1440, Core speed-3.24GHz

Looks like it's best to stay out of the 361-420ish area where the memory instabilities occur.
