Not likely, because most people will have low-end to mainstream graphics cards which would only be useful for resolutions upto 1280 x 1024. Even then, most run games at 1024 x 768. Resolutions like 1680 x 1050 aren't common because most don't have large widescreen monitors in order to take advantage of that resolution, and then on top, only a few would have a powerful enough graphics card to run a game smoothly at that res. All in all... I'm afraid you'll have to be using hacks for a lot longer.
Yeah I dont expect it to become common in the next year.
I would like to see native widescrean in most game though, because widescrean is clearly the trend, just look at laptops!
Also 1680X1050 is a 16X10 ratio which isn't to common compared to 16X9.
