What firmware setting dvd burner for Toshiba A15-S129?

I would like to replace/upgrade the stock Panasonic UJDA750 with a dvd burner in my Toshiba Satellite A15-S129 running WinXP SP2. The 750 is recognized as Master on the secondary ide channel with Ultra DMA enabled, but I don't know how to determine if the drive is setup by firmware as Master, CSEL, inverted CSEL, or other.

Once I know what the firmware setting is, I should be able to order the correctly setup slimline drive. Recommendations?? I would like to get the most up to date (fastest) single layer burner for the money. If it burns DL, that would be a bonus. 8X (min) dvd +/-r, 8X dvd-rom, 24X cd-r, either slot or tray loading.

I have tried a NEC ND6650A but it only used PIO mode (it was slow). Also tried a Panasonic UJ-846 but it seems only capable of reading dvd-rom at 6X max and actual rate is slower. Any help would be appreciated.
