I have two questions really:
SPECs:P4 2.8 1.5gig memory AGP
OLD CARD:radeon 9250b

1) First and more important how do you choose which brand, type? Don't know to go for pixel pipelines or newer model or. . .yet I have seen no newer video cards (in work)at all and was wondering if the price jump was worth it from the lower ends to mid. Want this as last card for computer but may use awhile before can afford PCI-E upgrading.

versus something like

I know the latter is better but worth it for a college budget. . .and I play allot of games. Also if anyone has better ideas on comparable cards they think my be better to these it would be much appreciated.

2)Do certain cards have a higher durability to wear and tear?
This was the first computer I built so I played around tons even when I shouldn't have. Within first two weeks it had shut down five times do to overheating the video card cause I had no idea what I was doing. Yet I lowered settings and it ran perfect afterwords. I carry my computer everywhere on a harness (or did before I got a laptop) and it takes allot of abuse. It has been kicked, knocked over, sat on, poked at by horrible mannered kids(darn nephews!), beer spilled into, left in car from subzero temperatures to a hundered degree temperatres for extended periods, and about any other reasonable thing you can think of. Yet this videocard ran a few years still (a tiny puddle was on the videocard but dried up and ran fine) no matter how poorly I treated it. Was I just lucky or do certain brands seem to hold out better.
Thanks and sorry for length of my post this is my first one. You guys seem to answer about everything already keep up the kick butt work!!

1. Oh god yes, an X1650 XT is worlds better than a 9600 PRO.

You can get a great card for under $100 in AGP though, there are Geforce 6600 GTs out there for less than $100. Those are alot better than the 9600 PRO.

But with the rebate that X1650 XT is an awesome deal. It's alot better even than the 6600 GT.

2. Wear and tear? Not really.
Some videocards will use alot more power though, which is hard on a substandard power supply.

An X1650 XT will need alot of power, at least a decent quality 400 wat power supply... if the power supply is insufficient, there will be crashing and gnashing of teeth...

Well the first linked card has been "deactivated" now anyway. Whatever that means, maybe its neweggs term for "discontinued".

I have a couple more quick questions. . .
I heard that AGP does not support crossfire yet some cards come with it. I was wondering if this is true and if so why put crossfire on if AGP cannot support it? Is there anything else that may not be supported?

Furthermore(sorry guys)I think I decided on this card. . .

No ATI AGP cards come with Crossfire. You have either been misinformed or misread this somewhere.

That 7600GT is a good card but I'd go for this H.I.S. X1650XT card. It's cheaper (by a lot after the rebate) and performs on par if not slightly better in certain games (ahem, Oblivion) than the 7600GT. That's a win win situation. Plus it comes with H.I.S.' excellent IceQ Turbo cooler. This is hands-down one of the best options available to AGP users right. I'm thinking of grabbing one to replace the aging 6600GT in my mom's machine.

Plus no mobo that I know of has more than one agp slot.

How about AGP + PCI-e crossfire on say an Asrock 939 Dual SATA 2.

You know, Newegg has listed some AGP cards as Crossfire cards  ; that's probably where he got it from. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102057
