Are you setup for 2 static ips from your ISP?
If yes then you need to put a switch between the modem and router. Hook the webserver to the switch and the router to the switch using the wan port.
Set the router and the webserver to the static ip you want assigned to it. All other computers will connect through the router.
If you only have one static ip then you will need to pick an ip from the routers network range to assign to the webserver and then setup port forwarding on the router.
If each computer will have its own static ip then you need to get a switch to connect all the computers to the modem. You will need to get the default gateway and dns server ips off the modem or from the isp.
I would keep the router there if you ever plan to temporarily hook up computers to the network.
You will need to go into the network settings to assign the static ip to each computer. Goto the connection properties, select tcp/ip properties to assign the ip.
Ok, turned off DHCP and assaigned static ip 71.252.236.50 to router, now how do I assign 71.252.236.51 to see my computer?
Thanks again, Hal
Hal, First read up on what a router does. I did not see an answer to the question of your hardware being a combination modem/router. I did not think FIOS had this type of hardware. I don't have FIOS, and likely will never be able to get it. From what I have read there should be some kind of media converter that changes from fiber to ethernet. Then Verizon supplies a router with special firmware for diagnostic purposes.
If you have 5 static IP's you need a switch. Plug all hardware that you want to have a static IP (up to 5 devices) into that switch. You will need one additional port on the switch to connect to your FIOS port. If you want you can disable the WAN port and DHCP on your router and use the built in switch of the router.
Then YOU will have to assign your static IPs that you got from your service provider to each box. One or more of those boxes plugged into the switch could be a router, allowing you to share that IP with as many devices you choose. It is possible that your ISP statically assigns your IP, i.e. they use DHCP, but always give you the same IP address (unlikely)
I have 7 days to change my ISP from Covad DSL to Fios
Cobalt DSL work DLS Cobalt Netopia router > switch > servers with static IP's. Is the Fios will work this way.
I prefer to call you and give you login to my network to check
