Hello.

I'm looking at building a cheap computer that is used for music, lite office stuff, movie watching, surfing net running either XP or Vista Basic Premium (only Vista if requested by buyer). I want it to be "As Future Proof As Possible" with capability for quad core, Vista, more RAM, Higher video card.

I have got everything down except for RAM and Video Card/On Board Video.

Processor will be Intel Core 2 Duo E6300.

Question 1:
Setup Option 1:
Asus P5B-VM $179 with 256MB on board Video used with
Option a: 2-Kingston KVR667D2N5(RETAIL)PC2-5400 1GB VALUE RAM $252
Option b: CORSAIR XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400 2GB 2X1GB PC6400 DDR2-800 CL 5-5-5-12 (2x 1GB) $345 (Toms Hardware recommends PC6400 for onboard video with this MOB but is it really needed?)

or

Setup Option 2:
Asus P5B-E $209
- XFX GeForce 7600 GS 400MHZ PCI-E 256MB 128BIT 700MHZ DDR2 Dual DVI-I HDTV Out Passive Video Card $130
- 1-Kingston KVR667D2N5(RETAIL)PC2-5400 1GB VALUE RAM $126

Suggestions?

Thanks

Matt

The second option is better, I'd say. Less RAM, but memory is also cheap and easily upgradeable, so in a few weeks / months it could be easily doubled. The video card, too, can be upgraded cheaply in the future. I'm assuming this is Canadian dollars?
