I just bought my new PC yesterday, a P5b Deluxe wifi e6300 allendale 2 x 1gb twinmos ddr2 800, i have no idea what happened, i was trying to reach 3ghz with 1.30vcore a 1.40vFSB, it was working pretty well, it booted to windows, obviously i had to test it with ORTHOS and i did, but after 15 mins of tests the PC shuts down, i guessed, failed OC attemp, happens.

I turn the PC again but wtf, it shuts down and repeat the process all the time, no POST, no image, doing a Clear CMOS didn't work, i have no idea what could have caused this, i have a Tagan 420Watts PSU which seemed to be quite enough for this PC.

I really appreciate your help since this is driving me crazy.

Your psu looks pretty low. What gpu are you using. Maybe the system was already pushed and your overclocking killed your psu. Tell us some more details because it might be a symptom of some other component's failure.

dont know if you tried this but turn off the PSU button for a few secs then turn it back on.If it`s just a failed overclocking issue then you`ll be fine , if not you have a problem

Also try removing your mobos battery for one hour and then put it back. If this and the clear CMOS jumper failed then we know that it's not a bios issue.

cycling the PSU is a good idea.

This does sound like a Power issue. I had an old PSU that I used in a new system and it blow out and the PC acted this way. Is the PSU new? hopefully it didn't fry anything else if the PSU blew.

On a side note -- 420W PSU should be enough unless you have alot of other stuff like dual graphics, a couple of hard drives, etc. The allendale CPU should be around 70w or so full load at 1.3V (checks the CPU power spec). I would inventory the power draw of all your components and leave some head room (maybe 10-20%) and some for overclocking and see if 420W is enough.

a new 500W+ PSU ,or more, isnt a bad idea, but if it finally boots i think it might be a ram issue , his ram might not be able to go beyond 400 MHz

First of all, thanks for the answers.

I've been playing all the day FEAR, not a single problem, after 3.0Ghz oc attemp the problems started, i only one one HD, X1950Pro,X-Fi Xtreme Gamer and a DVD RW unit, nothing more, unplugging // plugging the PSU cord was the first thing i did, but it kept doing those constant turning on // off.

I did do a clear CMOS without removing the battery, actually i removed the battery for 15 mins not one hour.

Cmos thing should be the only solution before RMA so how do i proceed.

Remove battery, put RTC jumpers on pins 2-3, wait an hour, put back the jumpers on 1-2 and then put the battery ?.

Thanks again.

ps: tested without ram vga hd, so must be some bios thing or just the mobo died because it doesnt do the classical beeps when ram // vga is missing, actually it doesnt get to POST so, i will wait for an answer of how to proceed with the battery // jumper.

if you did all that maybe its the mobo or PSU after all.Try some other ram sticks you never know.
Just curius , have you updated the bios to a newer version before all that?

When it was working i updated to 1004, but now i cant test anything because it doesnt get to POST screen, even with no ram vga hdds.

A Broken PSU might cause that ? Turn On, Off , On, OFf...all the time if i dont kill the power.

Tried removing the battery over one night but still the same, should i try a new PSU or directly RMA the motherboard ?.

Here's what I saw at the computer shop I go to when I had a similar problem. The guy at the shop took the mobo out of the case and used his PSU to try to boot it. When that failed, he tried switching the RAM sticks around by using different slots. After that didn't work he took the CPU out and put in another one. When all that didn't work, he made doubly sure by using my components in a different mobo to see which if any were defective. Well, he found out my CPU, RAM and PSU were fine. I ended up with a new mobo.

Thanks for telling me this, i guess i will rma it.

After i bought a new PSU, replaced the ram, nothing seemed to work, i took the Motherboard to my Computer Store and they discovered that some sort of transistor next to the WiFi card was burnt, it blowed up as the tech dude described, they offered me a paper to sign to send the motherboard to ASUS, i belive its outside Israel, must be Taiwan, the question is, obviously i did not burn the motherboard, it was working great untill some a reboot, i would like to know if ASUS will replace the motherboard if they see a transistor blowed up, i dont know what kind of warranty they offer but i wouldnt like to spend money again on a high end motherboard.

i think that they should, for one of the main problems about that board are the weak transistors. i would not buy a 680i board with plans to overclock without reinforced transistors. anyways i think that you should be ok.

I am from israel, the tech dude from the computer store told me they will have to send the mobo to ASUSTek which is outside the country, i guess its Taiwan

Back to the topic, it is true that the mobo got a weak circuit, i wouldnt be surprised if it selfs kill again, so should i take a DS4 ?, perhaps an Abit mobo ?.

I got an email from ASUS rma service, they said that my problem is covered by the warranty but as i said, i wouldn't like to suffer again.

Thanks, Priblux.

I recommend the DS3 Revision 2 mobo. I'm using it now. Great for overclocking.

my brother has the rev 1 and he doesnt like it much :) hope rev 2 is as good as they say although i believe the P5B is still a top performer. The fact that some boards of the thousands sold will be defective is not unsual.
