neverwinter nights freeze problem

im a newbie to this newsgroup and im sure this question has one that has
been asked many time however im going to ask it again. while playing NWN
the game will freeze and the only way to get out of it is to reset the
computer. i have the latest patch 1.66 for the game and the latest
drivers for my video card which is a nvidia geforce 6600 and i have
tried playing around with the video settings in the game ie. turning
down detail and the resolution still no luck.
the game freezes in the first chapter in black lake district while in
the gauntlet and surrounding areas. my system is an amd 64 bit 3400+
with 1 gig ram windows xp pro and a geforce 6600, has anyone had a
similar problem of know of a fix ??
