This might be on a sticky?? but couldnt see it?

I need some advise from all of you out there, I am bit behind the times and its upgrade time and clueless on Procs? @ the mo I have a P4 D640 3.2
job and have been thinking about getting (or should I say got some money come through) a E6600 duo, My first question is would I see a big difference in performance? System specs at the mo are: D640,Asus P5W DH Deluxe (which I just got incase I get the CPU) 2GB of 533 DDR2, XFX 7900GT and Maxtor Sata 160GB.

So would I see a big increase in performance? its going to be for gaming more than anything else? the confusion is to much :/ I was reading about the allendale last night ands it £100 cheaper? which would be great for the crap ram I have :) help please as dont know what to buy?

Cheers Helix

Yeah, there will be a big boost in performance in everything you do, gaming is more dependent on what kind of gfx card you have, but there will still be a noticle increase in frames.

Whats up with all the question marks? There are like 7 sentances in your post that arent questions but have a question mark instead of a period.

Any Core 2 will run fine with DDR2-533, using 533 might even net you a small performance boost over faster ram in certain apps. The FSB of the C2D is actually 533, but its quad pumped, so after everything is said and done its 1066.

Core 2 duo has a fsb of 266 that is quad pumped

hence 266 X 4 = 1066, sorry to nitpick

So if you have 2 gigs of DDR533 running in dual channel, it will have the same effective speed of 1066mhz, unless your planning to overclock thats all you really need

and yes it will make a huge difference over a P4
