Case: ENERMAX ECA3092
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 LGA 775 Intel P965
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775
Memory: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Video Card: EVGA 640-P2-N821-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB GDDR3
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600JS 160GB 7200 RPM
Power Supply: XCLIO X14S4P3 500W
DVD Drive: NEC 18X DVD±R DVD Burner

My goal was to build a respectable DX10 build for under $1,000.

I went with C2D 6300 because it is inexpensive and from what I have heard, is a great performer, and easily OC'able if I so choose. Was going to wait for a 8800GTS 320 but I figured what the hey, might as well just get 'er done now.

Me too, it is my first Intel build ever. Always been an AMD kinda guy. The times have changed.

yeah, me too. Total AMD fan.
BUT I just ordered my first Intel motherboard o_O and still making final decision on which c2d i'm going to get. The times have indeed changed!

Thumb up for not having blind loyalty. I'd switch back if AMD K8L has better a price/performance ratio & a long upgrade path.

Couldn't find the amperage on the xclio psu. It's from slizone? It should be fine.

Yea I don't know a whole lot about the PSU, but it was recommended to me as it is in the 'GreatPower' series of XClio PSU's which I guess is better than the other XClio PSU's.

I also have a Rosewill RP500-2 ATX 2.01 500W in my current computer. Do you think that would be better? I don't know anything about PSU's really.

Really good job that, nice build :D

But, you must overclock the E6300! It's compulsary in these parts. Failure to do so would be negligent ;)

I have never been an overclocker, and I fear my inexperience in such matters would result in disaster. Though I keep reading it is really easy with these processors. I also hear that they keep really cool even with stock coolers.

No.

The average user would buy a psu with the highest wattage for the lowest price. This, IMO, is the biggest mistake. If a psu goes down, it can bring other parts with it. I look for these in a psu: brand, new standard (ATX12V 2.2) that supports current & next-gen mobos & videos, wattage, combined amperage, and lastly price.

Well I think the PSU I got is a Tier 2 then. Well newegg doesn't 'Great Power' in the name as it is listed on the site, but the picture of the product has GreatPower on the PSU itself.
