I tried to enable the function in the 8800GTX drivers (Vista) that lets you play games at a lower res than my default 1680x1050 without stretching the image (you get black borders around the game instead). But whatever I do, ti doens't work. When I change the settings the driver tells me things have changed and if I'm sure I want to keep it that way, but it doesn't change! Yes, the res is lower (and looking awfull), but the screen still is stretched completely....

Is there something wrong with the newest driver? I tried it on XP and Vista: both the same problem! I have a Samsung 226BW which doesn't let you choose 1:1 by hardware.

if i am not mistaken, you nned the monitor to be able to do it as well. my monitor supports it and it works even though the catalyst control centre doesn't have an explicit option for it.

sorry, but it is your monitor which displays the pixels and if it only has fill panel and maintain aspect ratio your screwed i think.
