Can somebody tell me how to setup a 2 computer network( so i can share the drive of the other computer) using a routeur without internet access?
Both machine run winxp
Actually, the simplest way would be to buy a crossover cat5e cable and plug the cable into each computers NIC card... no router, no hub, no switch, nothing but the cable between the computers.
Just make sure it is a "crossover" cable.
Then, run the network setup wizard on each computer. You can leave the workgroup name as default (MSHOME) , since you have no internet connection so security is not an issue.
Then, open My Computer on the machine with the drive you want to share, right click on the drive you want to share and select Properties. Then click on the Sharing tab on the properties window. Then enable sharing. Windows will give you all kinds of dire warnings about the risks of sharing, just ignore them. Enable read only or read/write sharing, whichever you want.
You can do the same thing using the USB ports, but I've never done that, so I don't know exactly how to set it up.
ok guys finnaly one of the 2 computer has win2k on it. When i tried to run thet setup file i got a error message. Looks like i jneed to have win98-win98se or millenium or xp to be able to run that setup file.
Any idea how to get those two0 pc to cummunicate ( one is xp and 1 is 2k). Still having the same setup as my first post( hub without internet)
Any help would be appreciate!!
Instead of making a setup file, just run the network setup wizard on both machines. Just be sure you answer the questions correctly and spell the name of your workgroup EXACTLY the same way.
