Would you run an external GPU if you can keep the same performance?

This maybe should be posted on the MOBO section but my thoughts pertain to graphics cards. Found and intersting link here on the THG site about a new PCIe cable specifications getting talked about the link to the article is here courtsey of digitimes:

This leads me to belive that the supposed external graphics cards that were being talked about a few months ago might not be so far fetched. With this cableing system if you can get full speed on them just like the regular PCIe slot on the mobo that maybe external graphic card set ups may not be to far off. Just an interesting thought if anyone else has something to add please feel free.
