My default home page is automatically changing to a
different page that I don't recognize. It's a page
called "home search" with the following url:
res://amxrl.dll/index.html#37794.

This problem also automatically loads all kinds of files
and folders into my temporary internet files folder, and
not all of those files are deletable. WHen I try on some,
I get the "currently in use" message but of course I have
no way of closing that software, whatever it is.

Finally, when I go to "uninstall programs" I see two
suspicious programs: "Home Search Assistant" and "Search
Extender". But both of them cannot be deleted or
uninstalled for some reason.

Someone please help??

This is a BIG drag.

Thanks,

James

Do a google search for Spyware Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware and
Syywareblaster. Install those programs, update their definition files and
run them to remove any spyware/malware from your system.

Try using CWShredder and then AdAware to detect and hopefully remove it. Be sure
to update AdAware after you install it via "check for updates" selecting connect
and then OK when it finds the update. They are doing frequent updates to new
parasites. Then after selecting start, select use custom settings, select
customize and enable all available settings that are available as shown with a
red dot with an X in it . Before selecting proceed, select "tweak" in the left
column, then cleaning engine under expert settings, and enable automatically try
to unregister objects before deleting. Then select proceed/next to start
scanning. CWShredder no longer has updates but still would be worth a try before
running AdAware. Delete your temporary internet files and cookies first in the
tools/general page. Run AdAware twice and if items such as Cool Web keep
reappearing, try booting into safe mode and doing it again. The links below
should be helpful as you may need to use more advanced techniques to remove your
hijacking. --- Steve
