I can send email through my new iPAQ hx4705 just fine. And if there is no
email waiting for me at my ISP then all goes well.
But if there is email waiting in my inbox at my ISP I get an error message
saying "Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device....."
What gives? Any fixes out there? HP recommended a Registry hack but that
didn't help. Now they tell me my ISP has a problem but all other computers
(that I've tried, a half dozen or so) can download my email just fine.
I sure could use some ideas at this point! Thanks!

Who is your ISP and what are the settings in your inbox?
With this info we may be able to help you.

Have you tried using the ip address in place of the inbound mail
settings? (to get the mailbox ip address, open a command prompt and
type ping mail.blahblah.com
This should return the ip address, make a note of it and enter this
in your settings - it's worth a try!
This may not apply to your situation, but perhpas it's something to
investigate.
