Hi, All;

I just got one SIR-T160 from eBay. I don't have Directv yet, and I
just want use OTA part of it. However, I have difficulty to set it up.
After it turned on, it automatically searches for satellite dish. I
pressed the Menu button according to the manual, but nothing happens,
it stuck on the searching screen with a 'Installation' button. If I
pressed OK button at that point, it goes to Setup menu, but it still
asks satellite information and doesn't allow me go to anywhere else.
Did I do something wrong? What is right steps to got digital signal
off the air?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Randy

I can't site a source for you, but I have seen several cautions on this
subject. When you have any one of certain combo recievers, you need a
DirecTV subscription in force before you can view the setup menus for the
OTA TV portion.

I hope somebody posts a workaround; otherwise you may need to find a low-end
satellite package and subscribe. I have just the SIR-T160 and it's
working nicely.

From the Installation menu, go to Set Dish. Go through the different dish
types until you reach None. Select that.

You are now in business.

NOTE: The TS160 does not require a subscription to DirecTV to get OTA
locals. It *does* require a DirecTV access card be inserted in the
card slot before the ("Set Dish/NONE" ) setup menu can be accessed.

If you can't get to the setup menu and the used box didn't come with an
access card, you'll have to borrow a card from someone to set the box
up.

Mark, Thanks a lot. That tip worked.

I have another question now. Do you know why there is about 1" width
blank on both side on my 50" screen even when signal is HDTV and in
16:9 format?
