Remove copy protection on vhs record to dvd

I have a former blank VHS tape that I recorded on and now I want to convert it to dvd but it says it is copy protected. I can see if I was trying to copy a store bought vhs tape of a "hollywood" movie but this is something that I recorded. How can I transfer/copy to a dvd?
