What would be the best way to connect a set-top cable box - 1394 or the
component inputs? I am assuming the digital approach would be the best,
correct?

Thanks,
Mark

the longer it stays digital the better.

Depends
1. many STB's (like my SA from comcast) don't even have the software to
support the 1394 port installed
2. is your display device inherently digital (DLP. LCD. PDP) or is it
inherently analog (crt direct or RP)

If you display is digital, it makes a lot of sense.

If not, the question is whose analog converter is better, the one in the STB
or the one at the end of the DVI/firewire line.

Maybe. Don't assume this to be true in all cases. It is better to try it
and see.

Thats true better try it out.

I have heard some annoying things like resync between channel changes.
Delays in recognizing HDCP if used
when units are turned on/off.

In addition, AVS forum has reported no real difference in quality between
component, dvi and firewire.
