Lookin to upgrade my gaming rig so I can keep my 939 for a bit longer. I mostly play MMO's(Vanguard) and a little BF2. got a budget of around 350bucks heres current system:

Athlon 64 3200+
Asus A8N-E
x1800gto
1g DDR 400 (PC 3200)
Raidmax 450 PS

and this is what I'm looking at:

Antec NeoPower NeoHE 550
OEM Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo 2.2GHz 939(read this one was better than 4600 with the 1m cache)
CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB)
$330 with rebates

is this gonna give me the best bang for my buck? Would I be better off getting a Opty 165 and a Zalman for $340? I just wanna grab something before I'm unable to find a 939. P.S. Hoping to upgrade to something like a 8800 a little down the road.

Actually, if this is a gaming rig and you're trying to stretch it, then I don't think going with a dual core is necessary. You could just upgrade your graphics card and you'll have a great improvement. Add some RAM if you can and then you're laughing.

Failing that, definitely add more RAM. And that PSU is a good option. I suppose you could upgrade to dual core and then your system is actually pretty good......then you can upgrade the graphics card in 8 months when mainstream mid-range DX10 cards are affordable.

That might be your best option now that I think about it.......upgrading the parts you mention would make your system better overall. Don't listen to people who will knock s939....your system will be just fine, especially for gaming. It'll even run Vista no problem if you want to upgrade this year.

I say Good call for your money, go for it.

Your original psu sounds powerful enuf, could spend the $$ you planned on upgrade on some other component....
