I recently switched from the Samsung T-165 OTA only unit to a Sony
HD-300. The Samsung is a fine unit, but it runs hot and I had to use
an outboard switch to go to Direct TV. I am very pleased with the
Sony, especially it's ability to combine signals from satellite, the
UHF antenna and the VHF antenna (connected to the cable in port) into
one guide and favorites list.
My questions which the manual did not clear up and could not be
answered on search are as follows:
#1 I know that at least one more digital station will be on soon
here in El Paso as well as the PBS station will add a sub-channel.
Will these new channels show automatically? I tend to think not and
if so, can I occasionally tune to the known channel number and see if
they have come on then add them through the add menu? Or, do I have
to do a complete auto scan to look for new channels.
#2 On initial set-up a scan was done that I believe was for the
purpose of obtaining channel call letters and network logos for the El
Paso OTA channels, with this information downloaded from Direct TV.
No information was obtained for some of the newer digital channels.
Will this information be up-dated automatically on occasion, or will I
need to run this scan from time to time?
#3 I can find no delete function for unwanted channels. This is
most inconvient for those channels which do not even exist but are
adjacent to strong analog channels. I of course edit those out on the
"Custom" guide but would prefer to not have to see them on the "all
channel" guide.
As stated I am very pleased with this unit, but do find some
flaws in the channel management area. If anyone has more experience
with this unit and some advice it would be appreciated.
