Hi All,

I just had a tech over at my house because I had lost my HD signal (it
turned out to be a problem in the area). When he was looking at my system
he noticed I had a Radio Shack splitter to split the signal to my HD box and
my VCR. He replaced it with what he called a better quality splitter (it
did seem to improve my regular cable picture). He asked me if I had cable
internet, which I do, and said that I should consider getting a two-way
signal booster. When I asked where, he said, "Radio Shack". I asked him
for more details about the technical specs and he seemed to be
non-committal. So the big question is, should I get a signal booster and
does anyone have any recommendations? Will it really make that much
difference? My cable company just started offering 5Mbps Internet service,
which I will probably get (in case that would have any effect on your
answers).

Thanks,

PJ

If you have a marginal signal with either digital and/or HD cable and/or a
cable modem, you need an amplifier with a return path for the STB/modem
signals to get back to the cable. This is the "two-way" or bi-directional.

Comcast provided my amplifier for free.

Radio Shack has them

Ask your cable supplier to check your signal strength and install a signal
booster if needed. They will do it for free. Your internet connection should
be on the first split from the incoming cable feed immediately after the
signal booster (if installed).

They checked the signal, which is why they came out in the first place, it
was low. My internet connection is the first split from the incoming cable.
