Hey Guys. I have an Abit motherboard, AV8 model: http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/techspec.php?categories=1&model=175
I would like to run a single hard drive, not raid. I would like to run the FASTEST hard drive out there. Just looking for the all out fastest working unit, since I do a lot of word documents and file accessing daily. What would be my best choice to work with the board I am running? Please advise.
If cost isn't a big issue, than without a doubt, this is the fastest(non-SCSI) drive available. While other 7200 r.p.m. drives are catching up in speed, they still can't beat these for all around performance. GL :)

WD 150GB Raptor

PS. Too bad, but the rebate has expired.

Fastest HD out there? OK, you asked for it:

Seagate Cheetah 15K.5 74GB U320 SCSI 68P - $321
Seagate Cheetah 15K.5 146GB U320 SCSI 68P - $757
Seagate Cheetah 15K.5 300GB U320 SCSI 68P - $1277

These drives are meant for servers. They're optimized for multi-user environments. They may not have as much increase in performance as would be expected in a workstation / single-user environment.

You will also need an Ultra320 SCSI card (preferably on PCI-X or PCIe).

Seconded.
