My computer died, so I bought a new one. I think the old hard drive is working, but old computer was damaged, so I can't transfer the files to the new computer using the old one. How do I transfer the files from the old hard drive to the new one? Simple procedures, please. I'm kind of an idiot when it comes to working on computers. Any help appreciated. Thanks! :?:

Install the old hard drive as a slave drive in the new computer.

Some more information would be handy. Like, what interface does the old drive use (IDE, SATA)? What motherboard do you have (so we have an idea of what controllers you have)? Just some basic information will go a long ways for us to help you.

Install the old hard drive as a slave drive in the new computer.

And the first thing I'd do after that is run a virus scan on it :).

I managed to infect a new PC a few years back when I forgot to do that - got an old PC from my exwife who neglected to tell me about the virus she picked up on the old PC. Probably explains why she was anxious to get rid of it :).
