I've had a wide screen television for about a year and a half now, but
just got HDTV installed this morning. I've got Adelphia Cable, one of
the worst cable companies in the US. Anyway, I'm not sure if what I'm
looking at is HDTV or not. I've got digital cable and this new
receiver looks the same but it's plugged into the HD ports in the back
of the television. On my television, I choose either DVD, CABLE, VCR,
and now I have something called Colorstream HD2. I assume that's the
new HDTV. I turn that on and go to the HD channels. They look a little
better, sound a little better, but I'm not blown away. What's worse
is now for my local channels, I get those gray bars on the sides of
the picture. I'm watching the news now and NBC doens't have the gray
bars but ABC and CBS does. I was told by a rep that only NBC, ABC,
CBS, FOX, Stars, and Showtime are HD right now. The Showtime
channel..eh, can't tell. It doesn't look bad. The Stars Channel is
playing some grainy movie that has the bars on the side. What the hell
am I looking at?

My Adelphia listing is Santa Monica shows the following HD stations in
the 900 channel range: CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, PBS, HBO, Showtime. PBS is
full-time HD/WideScreen. Where are you and what channel is broadcasting
STARZ in HD? Also, I'm not getting the network or local news on any
stations in HD. HD programs are impressive; digital channels(above 100)
look good, but the analog channels(2 through 99) are only so-so on my
Samsung rear-projection set.

I don't know what hes talking about bars and etc. I have directv and CBS in
prime time, in hdtv, show bars above and below, and so does nbc,abc and pbs. Of
course I have a projector tv, so maybe that makes the differnce. I know with my
TV I can change format sizes.
