Hi everyone

Im wanting to upgrade my computer, i have £550, but before i go and spend my hard earned cash i would like to get some advice.

As i use my computer mainly for gaming and having read alot of posts on here i have decided on this graphics card.
320MB BFG Technology 8800GTS
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Pro [...] tID=545050 Price is £195

The processor i have decided to get is the Intel Core 2 Duo E6300, is it really worth paying the extra £25 for an E6400 ?
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Pro [...] tID=430631 Price is £115

The memory im not sure about, there seems to be alot of different kinds of memory, but seeing as the Processor and graphics take a huge chunk of my budget im going to have to go with the cheapest which is
2 of 1Gb Micron Major, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800)
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Pro [...] tID=527001 Price is £90
or
2 of 1Gb Corsair Value Select, DDR2 PC5300 (667)
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Pro [...] tID=232553 Price is £90

The motherboard i have picked out is a Gigabyte GA 965P-S3 iP965,again like the memory this is something im not sure about, ive selected it on the basis of what i need (PCI-E , Socket 775, DDR2 667/800)
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Pro [...] tID=448643 Price is £65

Alls that is left is the power supply, i have about £95 left for this and any recommendations will be appreciated. I have chosen scan because they seem to be the cheapest, if anyone can think of anything i could do to improve my new computer within my budget i would be grateful for the help and advice.

Thanks

All of those specs are very good, great choices! That mobo is great.

Now, if you're not overclocking, then that RAM will do just fine. If you do plan on overclocking, you'll need better RAM.

CPU. The stock 6400 is a bit better than the 6300, but honestly, since you'll be primarily using this setup for gaming, then get the 6300.....you won't notice a difference between it and the 6400, so save some money there. Make no mistake, the 6300 is a FAST chip.

The PSU. Don't cheap out, get something decent. To be honest, I'm not sure about the brands available in the UK. In North America, FSP and Hiper are decent ones that won't break the bank. OCZ is a great brand PSU, but costs a bit more too. Use the money you save from getting the 6300 and put it towards a better PSU.

That should do the trick. Other than that, you've done your research well. Good show!
