I chipped my chipset...do I just toss the mobo?...

Ok, here's "my supreme master builder" story...I've had an older system with an Abit NF7-S and Athlon2500+ for about 3 years with nada problems until the chipset fan died.
I bought a passive Zalman and installed it.BUT in the process of removing the old fan and base I got lazy and did not take out the mobo to properly cut the 2 plastic spacers from the other side,so I clipped them ith a pair of small scisors.And...yes I chipped one of the corners of the chipset,just a little bit-there is no metal circuitry exposed.
Tried to boot the system and all I'm getting is an intermittend buzzing sound about a second long withe 3 sec delays in between.Tried to reboot per Abit manual instructions and nothing.Any suggestions?

PS Thank God for my new E6600 and Evga 680i(wich make a great pair btw).

It's one to put down to experience... Sounds like the mobo is dead.
