OK, I went and bought the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional Series - Retail from Newegg.

I have a question, and maybe I should post this in the Sound Card section. I have the Asus 680i motherboard, not the Extreme. It has the built in sound. Should I take the asus sound card off the motherboard?? And does anyone know is there just one place in the bios where I have to disable the onboard sound? Does it just say disable & enable??

Just tired of the crackling sounds I get with on board sound. But messing around in the BIOS makes me nervous

Thanks all!

yar, bios>>advanced>>onboard device configuration

Here you have 2 settings:
(1) HD Audio - set to: DISABLE
(2) FRONT PANEL support type - set this to: HD Audio

With the second setting configured like this you can connect X-Fi to the front panel connectors. I have a different X-Fi but your model is supposed to support HD audio connectors, I think. You can check this anyway.

Hope this helps ;)

Another quick question.... Should I take the Asus supplied card off the motherboard since I won't be using it??

I would go ahead and take it off, even if you've disabled it...won't be sucking whatever little bit of power it sucks from your PSU.

I have one of these boards, too.

Is it possible to redirect the sound to front jack, or is another card required?
