Hi all, need some suggestions on speakers
I am looking to buy new computer speakers to listen to mp3s
I'm thinking 2 CH cuz I move around quite often
interested in SPDIF connection just cuz I have it on my motherboard
but my budget is only $60 USD

the best I found so far is BOSE Companion 2
the sound quality is really good even tho it's not SPDIF
but it's a bit expensive for me...

can anyone gimme a direction?
or am I asking too much for $60?

Asking for SPDIF is too much for $60 because that would be basically a pair of speakers AND a soundcard, since SPDIF requires that the speakers have onboard decoders.

You probably need to spend at least $100 for (at least by my standards) even remote listenable 2-channel speakers. I'd recommend the Altec Lansing MX5020s, Gigaworks T20s, or Logitech Z-10s (which can be around $60 on eBay). All three have at least a 3" midrange and a 1" tweeter, the bare minimum in my opinion for musical playback. Though your standards could be different, obviously.

Sorry if I'm mistaken
my motherboard has a ADI 1988b CODEC, which supports SPDIF output
and I have a VGA card that has audio pcb on it, also supports SPDIF output
isn't that all the decoder I need?
I'm really new to this, so am not sure

really good suggestion tho
having a 3" midrange and a 1" tweeter makes alot of sense to me
but i'm not sure about Logitech speakers
I listened to the quality of X-230 before, and it sounds terrible compare to the other brands at the same price range
kinda gave me the impression that Logitech is only selling the brand image....

SPDIF means that the signal remains digital when it leaves the computer instead of analog. Analog is a signal that speakers can amplify. Digital signals cannot. They need to be decoded.

If you have problems with electronics terminology, you should check out Wikipedia for definitions. It's better to educate yourself rather than relying merely on other people's opinions, which are often no more informed than your own.
