I'm currently trying to build a PC for gaming with around a $2000 budget. I already have a Dell 24" Widescreen LCD and would like the ability to play games (MMORPG, FPS, RTS) at the highest settings.

Which would you guys recommend (and why if wouldn't mind explaining)?

1 x 8800GTX 768MB

2 x 8800GTS 640MB SLI

1 x ATI X1950XTX

2 x ATI X1950XTX Crossfire

Lookingfor the best performance/image quality. I haven't built a PC in 3 or so years, so still trying to comprehend all the hardware. The system will be running a Core 2 Duo E6400-E6600 (overclocked if I can figure it out) and 2GB of memory.

I'm leaning towards the dual 8800 GTS, but also read someone suggesting by a little lower and upgrade later.

heres some benchmarks on the cards you selected link
definitely go the dx10 route, since your goin to spend that much on a gpu anyway. 2 x 8800gtx sli is always an option
i thought there was some benchmarks showing the cards at higher res, cant find it now. ati's cards are supposed to come out nxt month i think, if you want to wait

Out of those options, I'd either get the single 8800 GTX or the dual 8800 GTS.

Probably would take the SLI setup if I neede the highest resolutions with AA right out of the gate. Not that a single 8800 GTX couldn't handle very high resolutions with high AA either, but I'm assuming the two 640mb GTSs would do better... if money's no object.

As far as value-wise, I'd probably get a single 8800 GTS 640mb.

Actually, since there are no Dx10 games to play yet, what I'd probably do is wait the month and see if the new Radeon X2800 is as fast as everyone says it's going to be... :P

8800GTX.

Second that! You can always add a second one later on down the road too if you get an SLI board. 8800GTX is a beast.
