I've seen it in the press so you probably all know about it but won't hurt to repeat it I suppose.

I've just had a phone call from Jenni (with an indian accent) from 1 care systems international, it was a call from an international number.

Anyway, Jenni told me that someone in my organisation (on my home phone line), had downloaded some files that were corrupted and that... anyway I stopped her at that point and rapidly tried to think of a way of playing with them but couldn't.

Basically told her that the scam she was trying to pull on me would work if I was not Computer litterate, at which point there was silence and the phone went dead. So this person knows that they are tying to work a scam, so if anyone here gets that call then feel free to abuse them, play with them, insult their intelligence, their parents intelliegence for bring such a being into the world etc. etc.

But for those of you with parents with pc's that might fall for it, let them know its all rubbish and that they should ignore it.

edit: Somewhat bizzarely half an hour after warning my parents, they also got the call, guess they are working by surname

And me - funny how you almost feel bad about taking their money don't you? :D  I even had one who'd got this Indian chap on the 'phone saying he could see from there that her computer was corrupted and the damned things wasn't even switched on! I can't remember the name right now but they had a website and appeared quite genuine. If it comes back to me, I'll post it.

parents got another call a few days later, and mum thought "oh yes it is running slow..." before she thought better of it.

Ask them if they can see that your computer has 1d10t Ward (registered Tm) and phuxcammers (R) installed :p

or set up a rig thats infested, I mean dripping with malware, then when they call, tell them your not good with computers and if they remote desktop it, maybe they could sort it out for you? :)

i think that they are linked to a scam where they claim to be from the telephone preference service (they block cold callers for those not in the uk). They told me who I am, gave me my address and postcode, and asked for my first name even though they had it, when I suggested I was already with the TPS they went quiet and hung up. All I can think is that they were going to offer me an upgraded service for a fee.

Its just a feeling that I have that they are linked, and its some multilevel scam, i think they are getting more intelligent. If they had not used an indian call centre setup I would not have been up for playing with them from the moment I picked up the phone.
