I have an older LG burner and I love it. Sony on the other hand is on my black list, ever since the rootkit scandal. I would not install any software from Sony, under any circumstances.
(Edit) Just to clarify: Nero 7 is not a Sony product, no problems there. I'd be afraid to install Sony's drivers though, I don't need software that reports what I'm doing and my online banking password and so on, and then wipes out the system. Sony says they're not in that business anymore, but I'm not quite ready to trust them again.
My LG came with Nero 6, Power DVD, InCD and a few other goodies, and I'm guessing that their newer models come with Nero 7. You should try to find out before buying, of course.

and thats why a plug and play makes sony a happy happy optical drive most drives i know of is plug and play ( at least i would hope they are)
@dt
I don't know what's really happened/happening, but most (but not always) of the times, Sony's optical drive sold here sux while you guys haven't had any major problem... What's the deal?
@Zeapoorte
As you can see from my experiences I stated above, obviously my choice would be LG, my friends that sold warez CDs & DVDs have two of them while the other who owned an Internet cafe have one, except for the old one [burned too much warez discs ], they're in perfect working condition
Edit: I worked @ the Internet Cafe (not anymore) and kinda 'Tech guy' for the warez-selling discs shop, so I know all about their PCs
