I will be adding a data harddrive with the next paycheck, representing the low funds group. I want to add a graphics card eventually but I want to keep it under 200. Any suggestions or when I should wait till. I also want to add a sound card for basic dts dolby surround.

I am stuck as to what OS to through on though. I want vista eventually but I dont know if its worth getting now? Any thoughts...right now unitl graphics gets installed this is a office/internet/media computer.

Thanks guys, best board on the net and I couldnt have done it without your knowledge.

I eventually want to game but I just wanted to get some perspective. I am waiting for the expected gpu to drop before I pull the trigger, I have done no research on that yet. Would you recommend getting xp media oem with the upgrade and waiting...if I do upgrade can I still order the 64 version later?

By the way, is the c2d dual 64 or duel 32?

thanks guys

Looking good, picked out a pretty nice system for yourself.

I love fresh builds, the anticipation while building it is awesome once you see it running good...

Like already said, wait till the new video card models come out and watch the price drop on the n7950's and a1950's and you could get something good for around 200$... Although with that system I would want to be DX10 ready , so when those game's are released your ready for them..

good luck and let us know how the build goes :D

So would xp be a better option with the upgrade. Also, would it be possible to put 1+1+512+512 in the memory slots to get to 3?

Yes, but I don't believe there is a significant performance difference between 2 and 3Gb of ram.

I would use XP PRO sp2 for now if I were you...

Sure, you can use that memory config, as long as the memory works together (it's rare, but does happen that they don't like each other). I'd just put the two 1giger's in the Primary slots and the 512's in the secondary...

What do you mean? it includes VISTA and by not getting VISTA you will have some credit/money left over and are wondering what you should do with it?

Is that what you mean by that?

if I get xp now It comes with a coupon to upgrade to vista in the future. I was curious which it upgrades to and if I can get 64 bit still later.

Ahh I see, I'm not sure as every retailer could have different vouchers and promotions.

As a reference though, I recently bought a laptop and it came with XP HOME, although I got a voucher for a free copy of Vista home (Home Basic i'm sure, they prob too cheap to give me the Home Premium)..

You might wanna check that out with who/where you are getting it from..
