I was just wondering when I could give a refresh to my current setup and the nearest of the options will be when AMDs new K10 and Intel's 45nm Core2s, yes, but what will prices look like?!

Since I've been poring over that same timeline, I've been expecting a debut of $700 and a very fast settledown to $500 for the upper end CPUs. I just pray it won't be much higher.

Well, the QX6700 was 1100 when it debuted, now its 990 or so. The Q6600 is about 850 (see newegg.com).

I wouldn't expect a new line of CPUs to be less than 1000 for the intial batch (considering you're going to buy the fastest offering like the x6800 or qx6700).

I wish it would be $700 when it debutes, but I doubt that highly.

and what about K10 dual cores; they will still be the main attraction at the beginning. I believe AM2 models around $200-300 will be an incredible bang/buck.

You're crazy if you think there is going to be a $200-300 K10 based CPU at it's release, unless you mean crippled dual cores at low clockspeeds.
Well, not at the immediate release, but what was the price of he E6300, $190-200 if I'm not wrong. AMD charges something more when they are on the performance side, so at least minimum of ~$250 is reasonable for a 1.8 GHz K10, even if when you take a calculator and multiply 1.8 (the GHz of a current K8 ) by~ 1.7 (the ~70% of gain they claim) you get about the 3.0GHz of a 6000+, prices are mo longer the same

Keep in mind that when the QX premiered, CPU prices were much higher across the board. Now you can get a low-end dual core for $100. I'm gonna stick to my guns on this one. I can't see an AM2+ K10 2.5GHz being streetpriced at much over that, unless AMD has totally lost the plot. And I think that pricing pressures will keep both Intel and AMD in that line. Again, that's just IMHO.
