Looking into getting a sound and appreciate any recommendations. Will be used to listen to music through a receiver so want very good audio for music. Listen to music in stereo so surround really isn't important although may eventually go with 5.1 but nothing more. No games and might eventually try DVD music videos. Definitely want the digital out. Really don't want to go much above $100

I'm a Soundblaster customer for life.

I'll probably be getting the Fatal1ty Sound blaster for my next rig, with either the external or 5.25" bay that has the dolby connections, firewire, etc. Of course, I may get something else (X-Fi).

I currently have a Soundblaster Audigy (one of the first), with the 5.25" bay, and I love it. Great sound, though it's an old card now (rig is going on 5 years old).

I'll bet you can pick up an older Audigy card for cheap, and stay around the $100.

If it is going to the receiver any sound card with SPDIF pass through would suffice. Live 24 bit is a cheap and good option if you mention sound blaster. Chaintech card is a good one too, but quite old and can be difficult to find outside US I have heard. If you do not need surround at all have a look on mastering cards such as Emu 0404 or Lynx Two B.

I currently have an an Audigy 2 ZS but it was distorting the sound and cutting off steaming music. I uninstalled the drivers and software and using the onboard audio, which I had disabled. Before I get a new card will try to reinstall drivers. Probably will stay away from Creative, the card is only 3 years old. Unfortunately, the onboard does not have SPDIF
