clear password history

Hi Sean,

Open gpedit.msc (Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc -> click OK). Under Computer
Configuration drill down under Windows Settings -> Security Settings ->
Local Policies -> Security Options.

Here look for policy: Interactive Logon: Number of previous logons to
cache... Set this number to 0 (default is 10).

Restart the computer and check if the cache was cleared (if you can logon
with cached credentials)...

If you are talking about an Active Directory domain, I don't believe you can
as it is used to enforce password policy for users. A domain administrator
can of course change the password history setting in Domain Security
Policy. --- Steve

Hi Steve,

If I understood the Sean question he needs to clear the password cache
(password cache e.g. used by user to logon to his laptop at home when he is
away from his/hers computer.

If this is so, solution in my first post should help out. It is also a
solution used by Microsoft PSS when they need for a user to clear his
password cache...

Still it is possible that I misunderstood the question which wouldn't be the
first time ... :). It is also possible that Steve had some other password
(or password cache) in mind.

Hey Mike.

I was not sure either, I though that somebody was looking for a way to
bypass the password policy at the domain level to quickly reuse an old
password again? Hopefully one way or the other he found the info he
eeds. --- Steve
