The parts for my new PC arrived recently. To start with I put together the Core 2 Duo 6400, Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 motherboard and Corsair HX520 PSU, along with a speaker connected to the mainboard and Zalman CPU cooler. Result - a series of short beeps from the speaker, (which according to the manual signals a power supply problem), followed by the power supply turning off and restarting. I've checked everything's connected properly. The PSU fan runs OK. The 3.3V lines were, IIRC, nearer 3.7V, while the 5V and +/- 12V were OK.
I tried the Corsair PSU in my old PC (Gigabyte GA7-VAXP + Athlon 2000), and the PC did nothing, not even beeps.
I can't try the old PC's PSU on the new system, as it lacks the 4 pin ATX 12V connector.
I returned the PSU to Scan. The replacement, an HX620 (they were out of stock of 520's) arrived today. I got the same result as before with the new CPU/motherboard.
I'm going to pick up another ATX PSU today to try with my new system.
Swapped the PSU with no change. I would start looking at the compatibilies of all your gear. Have to tried to strip down the build to bare minimum and go from there. No GPU, 1 stick of RAM, no drives and wsuch
Good New Strike Team. I was about to express my surprise that a Corsair PSU crapped out like that. I've seen nothing but great reviews of the HW620. Its possible for any company (even the best) to occassionally ship out a bad part - but 2 in a row? Anyway - hope the new build performs to your expectations and beyond.
