Right now I have a basic D-Link router with a built in firewall and comodo firewall for the software side. I want to be the only one to access my computer to home from work.

My question is, would it be worth it to go out and purchase a piece of hardware, such as Sonicwall? Or is my setup fine?

I tried searching before posting. I am new to this, like many others.

Thanks.

Can your router handle VPN?
VPN would be a cheaper alternative.

Thats a hardware under $500, takes care of Firewall/VPN with Anti virus, spam, web and content filter and even IDS IPS. Check out the emulator on this page.

I love this thing for all it can do esp for the price. Totally worth it.

In most cases, a router and a soft firewall are enough for private user (as long as well configured!).

Anyway, if you do want to use hard firewall, than I would suggest you to buy an old PC (Pentium 1 or 2) and install Linux based firewall on it like:
- Smoothwall ( http://www.smoothwall.org/ )
- IPCop ( http://www.ipcop.org )
