I have a athlon xp 2600+ Barton core, and i have it currently overclocked to 2.23 ghz, although, i can only obtain stable operation with 1.85v in the core. I was wondering, isn't that a bit overkill? I have this oc set for a while now, and so far i haven't had any sort of problem, but im afraid im overjuicing it, or maybe forcing the board phases way too much, since they aren't cooled by any means.
On the cpu i have a Zalman CNPS7000B-CU, and i get 48º idle and 54º at full load +/-.
Cpu temps aren't that high, but aren't low either, so, neverminding that, could that amount of voltage damage the cpu or the board ( A7N8X-X ) itself?

Just wondering..
Thanks in advance.

Raising the voltage and OC'ing can reduce the life of the CPU. The biggest concern I would have is getting the temperature of that CPU down into the mid 40's under load. I have a AMD 3000 Barton that was running 2.509 GHZ at 1.85 volts for a year and a half with no problems but my temps under load was 10 degrees lower than yours. That Asus motherboard should not have any problems with 1.85 volts at all as long as you have decent case airflow. Have fun.

That sounds about right if the temp is concerning you maybe you should go to a better CPU air cooling solution, possibly a heatpipe cooler, you may be already running an aftermarket cooler.

Even with the voltage increase the cooler you can keep the CPU the longer it will last, but you're temp readings are well within the zone of safety for that Barton Core.

Maybe if i apply some new thermal compound on the athlon die it may lower a littlebit the temps, but with 50º~54º i think the cpu will last long enough till my next upgrade, god knows when!

Btw HA_ZEE, the clock set you have, you did it by mixing with the multipliers right? Mine are locked, and the pencil mod won't help, or so it seems, my L bridges are covered with that green stuff. My barton is green, contrary to many others i see, brown ones. Never got the point of that tho :o

The Barton core chip I am using has a 333 FSB. By using pc3200 DDR I can overclock without even running the ram at its rated speed. I have the FSB at 193 mhz (386 effective). If you consider the multiplier is at 13 then the CPU is running at 2.509 GHZ.
