I have a DLink DI-714P+ router which has VPN passthrough for both PPTP and IpSec. I am running Win2k. In the past I have tried to have the VPN client which is part of Win2k networking to connect to two different employee VPN servers, both times to no avail, with messages like "connection failed, addres xxx not found". This tells me that somehow something is not setup correctly in my router's configuration.
I may be working on a telecommuting consulting job soon and really need to setup this router so that I can use the VPN client in Win2k to connect to the company's VPN server for which I will be working. So I would like to setup my router so that I can do this. There are two questions:
1) Are there any VPN servers addresses to which I can try to connect so that I can just test my VPN client to make sure I can connect ?
2) I have a static IP address setup for port forwarding, which I believe I need for VPN client access. What else do I have to do in my router's configuration to use it as a VPN client ? Anbody who actually has this router and who has setup VPN with it would probably be most helpful, but I will take any knowledgable advice as long as it is specific to my problem.
DLink's support is non-existent, their web site hangs even trying to get any online support, and their tech support calls go to some outsourcing in India I believe where the personnel appear to have no clues about VPN with my router. So while I have paid money for this router and need to get it working I am essentially dealing with a company which does not exist other than to sell their hardware.
Any guidance getting this to work finally would be really helpful. Thank you !
