Sorry to bug you guys, but I have never overclocked a processor.

I have 2 boards an Abit AV-8 and a GIGABYTE GA-K8N51GMF-9. I'm trying to overclock an AMD 64 3800+ X2. I changed the speed from 200mhz to 230 or 250, then I saved the bios. When I reboot I get a lot of beeping from both boards and that's about it.
What am I missing here?

Thank you

ok a 3800 has these specs:

Multiplyer: 10

FSB:200

=2000mhz or 2ghz speed

If you do 250 fsb times 10 you get 2500mhz or 2.5ghz.

Thats big overclock for amd64s. Id shoot for 10-15% overclock.

Change the FSB to 220 or 230 If its not stable up the voltage by a little, BUT BE CAREFUL to much voltage will fry it. Just a tiny bit till its stable then add prime95 for 2-5 hours to check if its stable.
