I am looking for a chipset with an unlocked multiplier and high fsb speeds. I'm looking to clock the e6600 to the popular 4ghz. I hear the 965's have trouble with DDR2.

4.0GHz isn't that easy to attain for 24/7 without some serius cooling & a good CPU - 3.6GHz may be a more reasonable goal unless you have the aforesaid.

965 has the same problem with DDR2 that 975X, nF5 etc. do - a lot of high performance RAM requires more than the JEDEC spec. 1.8V that a lot of boards set as default.
Once you adjust the BIOS to supply that no problem :) or indeed most recent RAM has a differently programmed SPD to allow POST at lower speed & hence voltage.

Chipsets are not locked. CPU's ARE. And even reaching 3.6 GHz. is going to need more than the (pretty good) Intel HSF.

And CPU's vary.

I cannot reach 3.6 GHz with mine with running the core over 1.55 v.

Hmmm....arent you going to have to find a cpu with an unlocked multiplyer first 8O

I think the "unlock" he's talking about is the BIOS function to drop the multi to 8x, 7x...

When the 965 first came out, not many had that capability. I'm not sure if MSI 965s even have that capability today!

damn i think thats pushing it for an 'expected' result but you could be lucky, im hoping to get 3.5GHz from E6400, Asus P5N32-E SLI, 2 gig Corsair XMS2 6400C4 and a scythe Mine CPU cooler, but i would consider myself lucky i get that much of an overclock

I love my DFI Infinity 975 X/G it was only $165 and it runs 3.5 Ghz Orthos stable on cheep $230 2GB G.Skill RAM Kit and Zalman 9500 LED.

I ran 400X9=3.6 Ghz turned up my 8800 GTS to 666 GPU 1000 Mem and got 10800 in 3D Mark 06 but it's not Orthos stable untill I turn CPU down to 3.51 still not too shaby 390X9.

Ive had my Asus P5N32-E for over a week now and ive resigned it to gathering dust under the table with a E6400 and 2 gig of corsair 6400C4 ram in it as it keeps switching off for no reason, so im back on my reliable ASRock 939 Dual Sata AMD 4200+ PC, Ahhh progress, only for the toxic fumes i would enjoy burning it

, but the board seems ok and apparently there are loads of people who had issues flashing bios'es on both the Asus P5N32-E and the EVGA( i.e. flash failed needed to get a new eprom ).

Oh and if youre going for the Asus P5N32-E get the plus version

I had that problem with my P5N32-E SLi and I removed and swapped parts around and still no luck.

Finally removed the CPU cooler and put on a big Zalman and the 0902 bios then it was perfect.

I think the intel cpu fan wasnt seated properly on there and was tripping it out with heat.

May not be your problem but worth checking.
