I'll be forward, I just switched from an ati x800 gto to an evga 8800 gts. Uninstalled ati and used driver cleaner. My main beef seems to be good ole' Oblivion. my avg fps is in the teens in the outdoors and rarely goes into the 40s in a town. All settings are on max at 1280X1024. Please keep in mind my processor is running at 2.7 ghz, not the stock for the 3000+. Could my processor really be the bottleneck? maybe another gig of ram? The red to green switch? thanks.

Read your link Pro, I just have small favor to ask. What fps readouts do you get on games like any source title or Fear compared to some 'next gen' titles like Need for Speed: Carbon, R6 Vegas or Oblivion? If your up to it, keep the settings cranked bud. You mentioned your scores were something of 70-80% the avg reviewers bench? Thanks for the link again, gave me some good perspective.

OP its your CPU. 8800 GTS needs a monster cpu. I had DUAL CORE D820 oc@ 3.5GHz my 3rmark06 score was 7000ish now i have core 2 duo e6400@3.6ghz 10,000 score. Game runs fluid on 1900X1080 on my 40" hdtv!!! :D

In case anyone says 1GB is inadequate for Oblivion...

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6147127/p-7.html

I'm posting this because my gut instinct was already telling me "Man, 1GB ain't gonna cut it with Oblivion" but in reality... it does... at least according to these benchmarks.

I can see it too Homes. as they mentioned it was a subtle difference, I notice popping of some terrain and trees when I'm in a forested area with my 1 gig of OCZ performance series.

After scrounging around for my completely legal copy of 3dmark 06, My speculations became all the more adamant. All graphics tests perform admirably. 26 and 27 fps for Graphics tests and 38 and 36 for the HDR tests, at 1280x1024 with 4AA and 8AF. the CPU tests on the other hand were .322 fps and .522 fps. I've been out of the loop for a long time since I was interested in pcs (when I bought my AGP 9800pro), so is it safe to assume that the CPU tests were uh... Less than satisfactory? (Total score was 6391.)

I'm gonna probably grab an x2 3800+ or 4200+ and put it to work, dji2as. It will be my first time OCing (a cpu) by myself though...

I have also noticed some tree problems in oblivion with my 8800gts, I have an fx-55 and two gigs of ram(value select) , but I think that it might have something to do with the current nvidia drivers. I get around 35-40 fps average outdoors, min of 20 fps, max settings@1440x900 with HDR. More ram will cut down on lag from loading the environment though. You don't really need a monster cpu, I would say a 3800+ (single or dual core)or above would do well enough on Oblivion.
