I am having some trouble getting a good picture from my PC on my new HD
monitor. A good part of my problem may be that I am not understanding the
concept of the frequencies involved. I am pretty sharp when it comes to
tech stuff, so I probably just need a few tips. I have probably read ALL of
the Powerstrip tutorials but it seems like they always use examples that are
slightly different from my setup.
The relevant equipment:
Sony KV30HS420 HDTV 16:9 using HDMI input (this is a tube TV)
Sapphire ATI Radeon 9200 using DVI output (non SE version)
DVI to HDMI adapter cable(generic but it looks good)
I believe the monitor is capable of 1920x1080i input and display. I am sure
that when you feed it a 720p signal it upconverts it to 1080-this is spelled
out in the product description. Because I am using a HD tuner in my PC
which may tune in to 1080i channels, I think I want the PC to output
1920x1080i, this way the PC isn't converting the HD content down to a lower
resolution for display. Does this sound correct?
So far I have connected the PC to the HD monitor with an adapter cable,
installed Powerstrip 3.5 on a nice fresh XP install, installed the Sony GDM
W900 driver as instructed by all the tutorials, and played around with the
basic powerstrip resolution settings. I have so far been attempting to use
the standard custom resolutions included with Powerstrip. I am actually
getting display using "1280x720p HDTV standard". However, the picture is
chopped off on all 4 sides. Not only is the picture chopped off on all
sides, but it is 720p and like I said before, I think it would be best if I
ran at 1080i so I don't lose resolution when tuning in to a 1080i station.
If I set powerstrip to 1920x1080i, I get no picture at all. The tutorials
suggest things like running 1080 at 720 frequencies and such, but I don't
know what all to change as 720 is progressive and 1080 is interlaced. I am
even out of touch with how that is handled by the TV, so any links or
tutorials that may help me understand that would be awesome.
I am just not sure what to do from here. If anybody can provide some
assistance, I would really appreciate it. I am more than willing to give
any details about this setup if you need more info. I can't wait to get
this thing up and going 100% perfect!
