Hp netbook software problems

Hello,
hp mini when you turn on just comes up with "BOOTMGR is missing"
press ctrl+Alt+Del to start
but this does nothing and goes back to the above message

have you tried booting with a recovery CD? or flash drive?

I'm not too familiar with HP recovery options but while the laptop is starting up does it show any information regarding how to enter recovery?
