Hi all,

my rz1710 keeps complaining about to little internal memory. When i check
the memory manager i see 6Mb still free but locked by the IPAQ file store.
Can't i disable that, i have no need for this feature for as far as i can
see?

Greetings,

Marcel

The iPAQ File Store is a flash memory, and it's not part of RAM.

The best thing you can use it for is to install programs in it. This will
free up some of the memory on your iPAQ.

Also, if you use the Pocket Internet Explorer, make sure you clear its cache
from time to time. And check that there's no file left behind on \temp

That is odd, i can change the memory size of the ipaq store and the RAM with
the memory manager but if i make a change the system sets it to another
value. This makes me believe that there must be a way to use that memory for
system RAM.

I'm using a SD card for file storage so i don't need a internal storage
device, i just need more internal memory.

Greetings,

Marcel

It's not RAM. It's flash memory.

The setting you are playing with works on your RAM memory, not on the flash
memory- it changes the portion of RAM used for storage and for running
programs. This is storage in RAM, *not* your flash memory.

I've been using this little program, Fast Cleanup
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14620
to clear the cache and remove temp files. My iPAQ is fairly new, so I
haven't discovered the built-in cache cleaner.

fine by me, my ipaq calls it the Ipaq File Store and i want it disabled so i
can use more RAM for the system memory.
It says the system has 32Mb RAM and the memory manager only allows me to use
16Mb of it.

It has nothing to do with the RAM. Disabling it would not affect your usable
RAM. All that it would do is give you less storage space- by all means don't
use it, but you are missing out on some storage space.

The memory is split between program storage and RAM for running programs.
That is the way it works. Your ppc decides on the split- it's written into
your ppc's memory management- the only change you may be able to make would
be the one Mauricio Freitas [MVP] gave. If that doesn't work for you then
you have what you have.

Marcel -

In plain language - and not to be rude - you cannot use
the file store to add to your RAM which would be usable
for programs - this is "storage" only, and can be used to
store programs, or other files, but cannot be used
to "run" apps.
