I've been looking at these two lovely processors.

- AMD Athlon64 X2 Dual-Core 5000+ 2.6GHz 2x512Kb Boxed (with cpu-cooler!) Socket AM2

- AMD Athlon64 X2 Dual-Core 5200+ 2.6GHz 2x1MB Boxed (with cpu-cooler!) Socket AM2

As you can see, the 5200+ got 2x1MB and 5000+ 2x512Kb. I find it strange that the 5000+ is a little more expensive then its competitor.
So I wonder why this is. Which one should I buy?

If the 5200 is cheaper, get it. Why you will pay more for a slower cpu?

Thats exactly the question im asking myself. Just wan't to know what the thing is with the price :/ Many Swedish resellers got this price-setting.

But they have just been released and availability is not as good as the 90nm, so prices are going to be higher. And brisbane is not going to be cheaper for the consumer. AMD will pocket the extra profit. so they will cost the same as 90nm

QFT. AMD needs the extra cash when they're already slashing prices like crazy bastards.

Meh, if you let me choose between two identical AMD chips, one 65nm and one 90nm, I'd take the 90nm, even though a die shrink should be an improvement.

Much more mature process, to the extent that AMD cant clock their 65nm as high yet, and the 65nm has that horrible latency issue.

Yes that's true, but the 65nm are great for media center pc's since the don,t give off that much heat, and use less power.

There is very little performance difference between these two chips. If the price difference is minimal, I would go for the 5200+ as it does have the extra cache, although the user will never notice the difference as it is within a few percentage points on just about every test.
