Hi, another question from a noob :)

I know that your CPU GHZ can Limit your Video Card performance...

I was wondering if there is a was to know how much is it limitating the video card ...

What i mean is, I have a Opteron 165 at 1.8 GHZ. Is it slowing down my Asus EN7900GT TOP ? If i overclock more, will it let my video card perform more or is it capped at it's maximal power or do i have to Overclock the video card to get more power?

I'm trying to play Rainbow Six Vegas and in 1600X1200 high settings, i get from 10 to 25 FPS ... Is it this game that is just too demanding ?

Thanks for any advice

That game is way to demanding for your system at those settings I dont even run everything maxed out @ 1280x1024 with my system in the sig. You should lower res and some of the settings and see how you do. OC'ing your proc more may help as well, but it isnt much of a CPU needy game.

is there a way to actually set it to 1280X1024 cause in my settings i only see 1280X960, and after that it jumps to 1600X1200

can i edit a config file somewhere to manually set it to this resolution ?

thanks

1280x960 is what you want.
Sounds like you have a wide screen.

1280x1024 is for traditional shaped screens.

And It is likely your video card that has the limit.
The size resolution you are using is huge and needs lots of memory and power. Your card is good, but not that good.

I would look at upgrading to a 8600GT or something similar with 512MB of memory next month. This should be $175-$225 based on price rumors.

Incorrect, 1280x800 is the 16:10 widscreen (the ratio that computers use)

1280x960 is the ACTUAL 4:3 ratio setting, but for some reason 1280x1024 became the standard.

I've managed to change the resolution but damn this game needs a good computer to run, it lags on mine ...

even with the CPU at 2.8 GHZ, the 7900 GT 2GB or ram, i get around 15-27 FPS ...

its also a pretty crappy console port, Best,

Isn't that pretty much redundant anymore ? I have yet to play a console game that was ported over to PC that didn't play like a Console. OBTW I hate consoles.

If they ever do release Gears of War for the PC, I'll be interested to see if that trend continues. I actually have faith that Epic would make it work

lol yea I suppose it is during this day and age. I have seen some speculation that GoW is comming to the PC in the future, though now sure when, im sure its not in the near. I have the same faith you do man, Epic is my favorite game company UT FTW!!! lol, I doubt they will let us down, I have GoW on my newly bought 360 and it is quite amazing. I am actually impressed with the 360's performance on it, but I actually credit that to superior programming on Epic's side. lol
