Hi there, i am trying to overclock my E6600 to about 3 Ghz or a FSB of 334 Mhz.
I can easily get it to 2.7 ghz or FSB 300, but when i try to overclock it to FSB 334 whenever the pc boots ,but locks up randomly with a BSOD and restarts.
I cannot play games cos it will lock up after a few seconds or minutes when at FSB333 or sometimes even just when browsing the net.
I dont know what causes this, tried to raise the voltage of CPU,memory and MCH(and CPU temps are always below 35 idle and 53 full load when overclocking)).
My question is now : what are the voltages needed for overclocking to FSB334 (minimum voltage of memory, CPU,MCH)
These are my settings and system specs :

settings at FSB 133:
MCH : 1.38 V (1 setting further and i have dangerous voltage says BIOS)
CPU : 1.208 V + .875 (already 1 step in the red area of voltage according to BIOS)
Memory : 2.00V
PCIE clock at 100
Ram at 5-5-5-15
Ram/FSB at 1:1
Spread spectrum disabled

MSI P965 platinum (latest BIOS v1.3)
E6600
4 x 1GB crucial DDR2 5300 667 Mhz
Coolermaster hyper TX CPU cooler
4 x DVD RW drives
2 x raptor 74 GB raid 0
X-FI Fatality Gamer Pro 64 MB soundcard
Gainward nvidia 8800GTS 640 mb
XION PSU 500Watt

Can anyone give me some clues how to get to FSB 333, how come my pc locks up (power supply,voltages....??)
Thanks for info all
regards

He doesnt need to Overvolt so much yet...
I didnt need to change voltage on your cpu till 3.2Ghz
Take down your CPU back to stock voltage, then Up the voltage by .1 on your RAM. Your timings are pretty loose already so you dont need to change that.

If you still having issues up your voltage on your CPU just by one increment.

Btw... if you have any more issues come by the http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums

No Core 2 is going to be damaged by 1.4v, it is a completely safe voltage...

I personally would put it to 1.4v and then slowly increase the speed until I found the fastest stable speed.

Most Crucial RAM is rated at 2.1v or 2.2v. As crucial are a division of Micron, alot of their DIMMs use D9s and can take 2.3v-2.4v, So I'd agree he also wants at least 2.1v vDIMM.

i thought i had it in the bag but no, regularly i get a quit to desktop or an occassional BSOD again, but usually after about 15 minutes till half an hour of gametime.CPU temperature is only about 45 degrees celsius then, so it is not a heat problem. I guess maybe its my PSU (XION 500 Watt), upped the voltages of ram to 2.2V,MCH to 1.67V (from 1.30V) and a slight increase in CPU voltage (1.25V) but to no avail, still the occassional quit to desktop or BSOD after a while. But still much more stable then with the previous first settings.
any suggestions

Drop all of your voltages back to stock. The only one I might bump is MCH, since you're pushing the FSB a little. Try your memory @ 1.8v. You're nowhere near pushing the memory....reaching 333 would bring your memory back up to stock frequency at a 1:1.

I'm surprised no one has addressed the elephant in the room...your mobo. I don't know what the latest BIOS has brought to the party, but I've heard your mobo doesn't even enable dropping the CPU multiplier. You can either get a different motherboard, or patiently wait for MSI to play catchup to what other 965s are capable of.
