no display!

Ok, I have a friend that has this super old-ass compaq presario piece of shit. Suddenly she says her display is no longer functioning. I offered to help but I have very limited expertise. I thought it may be a problem with dust and dirt (several cats, sitting on the floor, etc.) so I gave it a thorough cleaning, I checked out the input, all wires are connected properly and everything. Power supply is ok. I've checked it with several other monitors as well. It has on-board video, so this isn't really a graphics card problem. All components seem to be ok except nothing displays on the monitor. this computer is a good 7 years and I know the logical thing to do is trash it and build yourself a new rig, but she wants this to hold out until she gets a new PC.

I'm tryin to get some specs on it, but I can't run any programs on it, all I can really do is take a look for myself. It's from about 2000. Sorry I so far can't get any real specs on it. Any ideas anyone?? any questions?

MILF hunter: do you get any beep codes? does it sound like the hard drive is working? do you have a spare video card? it <sounds> like the motherboard or CPU took a dump. only thing I can suggest is to try another video card OR remove 1 of the DIMMs (if you can). u can also try clearing the CMOS/BIOS/NVRAM... but I doubt that'll work.
