In the 6200 menu, the one you use with the box
turned off, where you select the output you want,
Everything works fine on 480i, 480p and 1080i
but when i set it to 720p which is the native
resoution of the HLP4663W, the screen just flickers.
This is over component. However if I use
a DVI cable to hook the box to the TV 720p
works fine. Anyone know why this may be?

Have you tried component 2? HLN models supposedly didn't want
HD (though 1080 seemed to work) on Component 1.

Yup, sure did, both component inputs same result.

Maybe something is screwed up on the cable box. ??? Do you know someone
else with a HDTV that you could hook up the cable box in 720p mode to their
tv? If it doesn't work on theirs either (given that it's a different model)
then you could at least know it's something with the cable box.

I don't see why this is a problem though. Given that you've said the DVI
connection works why wouldn't you use that? The DVI connection will
eliminate a digital->analog and analog->digital conversion which degrades
your picture. Use that one!

Other people have reported the same problem so I think it is not a defect,
just some incompatibility. I would use the DVI but I am using it that
for my DVD player (I got the samsung HD931) which requires the
DVI port for its upscaling capability. I had originally planned to use
HDMI for the cable only to find out the DCT6200 has no HDMI :(

Even though Im not going to use the 720p output afterall, it /is/ a problem
because for 3 grand I expect EVERYTHING to work as it is supposed to.

Interesting. I had the same experience (hooked up to comp1) when helping
a friend set up his HLN. DVI (once we went and got a cable) worked fine,
but component didn't. When talking to sammy support (he was scheduling the
a/v sync fix) he mentioned it to the rep, and they claimed component1 was only
supposed to work with 480i/p

This was also a comcast motorola HD box. I wonder if the issue is
with the box, or the sammy?

I agree with you - that tv should work flawlessly after spending that kind
of money!

Did you get the tv and dvd player at the same store? If you go in and talk
to them about it maybe you could get them agree to let you exchange the
HD-931 for the HD-941 once that comes out in the next month or two. The 941
will have an HDMI connector so that would allow you to use the 6200 with DVI
and the 941 with HDMI.

I didnt get them at the same store but as it turns out Im not going to have
the box
output 720p anyway so its not a huge deal. I still would like to have that
setup
though, jsut so I wont have any digital/analog conversions either.

Ditto!
I just bought a Samsung HLN-5063W today and I have the Motorola DCT-5100
HDTV cable box from ComCast. I have tried connecting the two via every
component video connection and the combination fails to work at 720p
resolution. The screen just flickers. My greatest concern is "do I have a
defective TV"? I no of no way to test the TV to make sure it is capable of
720p as stated.

Although it looks great with the DCT-5100 set to 1080i and having the TV
downconvert the signal. I wonder how much better it would look having the
source do the conversion. The DVI option is not appealing to me because I
like the convenience of switching all my sources on my home theatre
system. It is a pain to have to switch that plus the TV input all the
time. If anyone has a clue as to the cause of this problem, please let me
know? I will contact ComCast tomorrow and see what they have to say. I
will post any new information I discover here.
